Perfect Baby.... Well almost...

So last week, one of the largest ever regular season audiences tuned in to watch the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants and complete a perfect season. Now, we have to look at this accomplishment and see what it really means. I have listened to the paid pundits spout on over the last 10 days or so, about how it simply proves, what we have thought all along, that this years New England Patriots are the best team, ever. Maybe that is so, but as many of you would have already guessed, I have a different opinion.

What do I think the perfect season means? It means absolutely nothing. Nothing. But only because the perfect season has yet to happen. I know that many of you are wanting to find out what I am smoking prior to my scribing this column, but I ensure you, I am completely sober.

In 1972, the Miami Dolphins complete the only perfect season in NFL history, by going 14-0 in the regular season, then following that up with a 3-0 walk through the playoffs and Superbowl. Now, the season is two games longer, so the Pats are 16-0, but if they don't win 2 playoff games and the Superbowl, then it is just another loveable loser story. It really makes this years Pats a footnote to history. In fact, even if they win the next to playoff games and improve their record to 18-0, they would have beaten the 17 wins the dolphins put up in 72, but if they don't win the Superbowl would any of it matter?

I simply don't think so.
