1. USC Trojans – No ChangeThe Trojans hold the number one spot in this weeks rankings, even though they did not play this week. This is a team we will learn a lot more about with next weeks mega-battle against Ohio State.
2. Georgia Bulldogs – No ChangeKnowshon Moreno ran for 3 TD’s as the Dawgs ran all over cupcake Central Michigan. This team has looked great through the first two weeks, but I don’t know how good they really are yet. We will see as their next three games are vs South Carolina, Arizona State, and Alabama.
3. Ohio State – No ChangeThe Buckeyes won this week, but did so in unspectacular fashion. OSU should have put up bigger numbers against lowly Ohio, but the Buckeyes were likely looking forward to next week’s showdown with USC.
4. Florida Gators – No ChangeIn a battle against Miami, the Gators could have easily wound up on the short end of the stick. Not only has Miami owned Florida in recent battles, but speed usually is King in this showdown, and the Canes are the faster team. Having said that however, the Gator made it a power game, and despite a close first half, the Gators took over in the second half, and game away with a convincing win.
5. LSU Tigers – No ChangeLSU and the rest of Louisiana have had it tough due to weather, and Hurricane Ike may not make it any easier. The Tigers match-up with Troy was postponed due to Hanna, but I cannot punish LSU for the weather.
6. Oklahoma Sooners – No ChangeBradford looked great this week, throwing for 5 TD’s as the Sooner murdered Cincinnati 52-26. This team has looked great during their first two weeks, albeit no having played the best competition thus far.
7. Missouri Tigers – No ChangeAfter a tough opening week match-up, the Tigers get an easier going of it in week two. Chase Daniels looked awesome and the Tiger left no doubt that they will be a player on the national scene this season as they hung 52 around the neck of SE Missouri State.
8. Auburn Tigers – No ChangeA more competitive game than what Auburn probably expected, the Tigers still played well enough to win. Their throw down with LSU looms two weeks away, and you have to hope Auburn doesn’t look past MSU next week either.
9. Texas Longhorns – No ChangeMcCoy has thrown for 7 TD’s in the first two weeks of the season. Still we won’t really know about the quality of the Horns until the Red River Shootout. Until then, you should expect Mack browns crew to continue to roll.
10. Texas Tech – +1Harrell backed up his big week one performance with a quality performance in week two. The Raiders consistent play proved too much for Nevada, and Texas Tech earned their second win.
11. Wisconsin Badgers – +1Another week, another win for them Badgers. This week PJ Hill was held to 57 yards against the Thundering Herd, but this week it was Evridge who stepped it up with over 300 yards in the air.
12. Arizona State Sun Devils – +1A second straight win for Erickson's kids out in the desert. This team is better than the rest of the nation thinks. I think they are very much for real, and will be players this year.
13. Kansas Jayhawks – +3Todd Reesing threw for over 400 yards in the Jayhawks route of La Tech. Obviously, this team is trying to prove they are real contenders. Of course with such a big win, I have to move Kansas up my board.
The Tide earn a four spot bump in my rankings this week as they combined a two touchdown win over Tulane, with losses and close calls from the teams in front of them. Great special teams play pushed the Tide into the win column this week.
Week 1 the Pirates surprised the nation and knocked off Va Tech. Another week, another top 25 tem falls to ECU. This time, West Virginia. With two huge wins the Pirates have earned their place amongst the teams they beat, the top 25.
16. BYU Cougars – -2This team walked away from this weeks game with a win, thanks to a very poor call by the officials. There is no reason that excessive celebration call should have ever been made. Washington should have won, and although BYU earns the W, they still drop on my board.
17. Clemson Tigers – +2The rest of the nation is really down on Clemson after their week 1 loss. I still think the Tigers are a pretty darn good football team. Yes they lost ot Bama week 1, but the killed it week two against the Citadel. Sure the Citadel is not exactly a national powerhouse, but then again, is a loss to a good team and a murdering of a bad team, all that much worse than tow wins over sub par opponents?
18. Oregon Ducks – +2The Ducks put up big numbers again, and Roper is back behind center, so Oregon has a lot to look forward to. Their next three are against Purdue, Boise State, and Washington State, so the Ducks have a real shot at a 5-0 start.
19. South Florida Bulls – -2When will good teams learn to not look past others towards their next big opponent? The Bulls looked past UCF, ahead to Kansas, and almost paid the price. Even though they won, USF losses points for such a close call.
Joe Pa has a lot of behavioral issues with his Lions this year, and is missing defensive stud Sean Lee. Oh, and his Penn State team won its first two games in impressive fashion. Their first real test will come against Illinois, but even including that game, I see this team rattling off its next few games as wins.
Ole Miss took Wake to the edge this week, in a very exciting football game, featuring two very talented QBs. Skinner proved again though, that he knows how to win. I don’t think the Deacons should have struggled quite so much against Ole Miss, but the Rebs really played up.
22. Utah Utes – New to PollAfter watching this team against Michigan I was left with one thought. Gosh, this kid Johnson is a good QB. I like the way he calls a game, and I love the way he makes plays. I am not sure how good this team is going to be by the end, but for right now, they make our list.
They beat Rutgers week one, and now they got a week off to prepare for their show down with Wisconsin. We will know a lot more about the Bulldogs after that match-up but for now they stay on our list.
24. Illinios Fighting Illini – +1The Illini are a lot like Clemson. They played a good team in week 1 and got beat. Then in week two, they made mincemeat out of the cupcake they were pitted against. We still need to figure out how good this team is, but a few big name match-ups over the next few weeks will help us sort through it all.
25. California – New to PollA new entry to our top 25, the Cal Bears enter the list after destroying Washington State 66-3 for their second win of the young season. I love seeing them use both Best and Vereen at RB and this team could make some PAC-10 noise this season.
